DALLAS, June 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fireworks, cookouts, baseball and a salute to Old Glory - these are a few of America's favorite things. But when Chef Andy Wittman of Pie Five Pizza was tasked with finding the best way to show his patriotism this Fourth of July, he knew exactly where to start - Granny's kitchen.

Never one to make a fuss, Granny Wittman was happy to oblige. So starting today, with the help of her grandson, Pie Five guests nationwide can get a taste of Granny's Apple Pie, an original combination of snickerdoodle cookies and fresh apple pie. This patriotic indulgence starts with a buttery snickerdoodle crust layered with warm cobbler-spiced apples. Topped with cinnamon streusel crumbles, this delectable dessert will have you singing "Yankee Doodle Dandy" at first bite.

"Growing up, I knew a trip to Granny's house meant two things: lots of hugs and endless treats," Wittman said. "Granny makes a mean snickerdoodle cookie and her apple pie is the envy of all her neighbors. I could never just have one or the other, and I didn't want our guests to be faced with that kind of a dilemma either."

No dawdling, now - Granny's homemade goodies are only available through August 3; and if you don't give them a try, you're going to hurt her feelings.

"Oh my yes, that Andy always had quite the sweet tooth," chuckled Granny Wittman from the comfort of her rocking chair. "He's a great little helper, and so smart - but between you and me, I taught him everything he knows."

At Pie Five, guests can choose from more than a million combinations of handcrafted pizzas and a variety of specialty pie choices prepared in less than five minutes on one of four crusts, all for one low price. The trend-setting chain is capitalizing on growing consumer demand for fresh dining options and artisan pizzas in stylish environments without the wait.

Pie Five Pizza has been named among Fast Casual's 2014 Top 15 "Movers & Shakers," a 2012 Hot Concepts winner by Nation's Restaurant News and one of "10 Hot New Restaurant Chains from Established Brands" by Forbes.com.

The company currently has 20 locations in six states (Florida, Kansas, North Carolina, Texas, Utah and Virginia) with more than 170 announced franchise units under contract in 12 states and Washington, DC.
